ELISA JOHNS: Wildflowers
June 1 - 30, 2016
Elisa Johns' still life paintings are a thoughtful meditation on Western wildflowers.
Influenced by Japanese flower drawings and prints, the new works on paper have a lyrical beauty. In the Japanese tradition Johns' ink and acrylic works emphasize the flatness of the picture plane and play with the restrained beauty of simple line work. The modest elegance of the line flattens the space. In contrast, thicker floral elements are pushed to the foreground.
The floral studies are an intimate reflection on Elisa's love of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Canyon Country of the Southwest.
