Gantner is inspired by the fluid, organic forms present in nature, yet juxtaposes these elements by presenting them with synthetic materials such as acrylic and vinyl. The synthetic material combined with color uncharacteristic of the nature itself mocks the idea of nature, plays with the viewer and makes one question one’s own ideas of nature in relation to the synthetic world in which we live.
Gantners work is bright and engaging. The flat landscapes are perfect background for the bright lines that jump off the pages, exploding into thistles and briar bushes, teepees and skyscraper’s made of leaves. The work is playful, evocative of a child’s perspective of nature. The forms are not true to size, either enlarged to some degree or flattened to the point of obscurity. However, it is the unknown point of reference that adds an air of mystery, wonder, and whimsical beauty to the works.
