I wrote this quite awhile ago and yet somehow, it feels more relevant today than ever...
I think there is a misunderstanding of the role of education today. Somehow, it seems, from the conversations I have heard and witnessed recently, education has become nothing more than a tool to get a job to make (a lot of) money. Somehow, education has failed if it has not provided specifically this one thing.
I believe you get an education not to “find a job” at all but to learn about who you are, what it means to be human and what you want to contribute in this lifetime.
It is a process of incubation, of turning inward and applying outward in hopes of creating thoughtful individuals who can and will contribute to making their world, this world, a better place, one filled with beauty & peace, where because of the individual efforts, all may know happiness and the root of all happiness.
This is why we believe in the humanities. This is why we believe in art.
